Former President Donald Trump on Saturday publicly pressed Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue criminal charges against some of his most prominent political adversaries, warning that continued delays were damaging his administration’s credibility.
In a Truth Social post addressed directly to Bondi, Trump complained that the absence of prosecutions against Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), former FBI Director James Comey, and New York Attorney General Letitia James was “killing our reputation and credibility.” He added: “We can’t delay any longer. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”
Trump’s comments also took aim at Erik Siebert, the former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, whom he forced out on Friday after Siebert reportedly expressed doubts about pursuing mortgage fraud charges against James. Trump appeared to confirm those reports, accusing Siebert of claiming “that we had no case.” “There is a GREAT CASE,” Trump wrote.
The former president further suggested that Lindsey Halligan — a onetime personal attorney who now serves as a White House aide — could play a role in efforts to prosecute his opponents. Trump indicated he intends to nominate her as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, though it remains unclear whether he expects Bondi to appoint her in an interim capacity.
The unusually direct message linked Trump’s grievances over his own prosecutions and impeachments to decisions facing the Justice Department. “One way or the other. They’re guilty, they’re not guilty. We have to act fast,” Trump later told reporters. “If they’re not guilty, that’s fine. If they are guilty, or if they should be judged, they should be judged. And we have to do it now.”
Trump has repeatedly accused Schiff, Comey, and James of criminal wrongdoing, though he has not provided evidence. Comey was dismissed as FBI director in 2017 during the Russia investigation. Schiff led Trump’s first impeachment trial over his efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate political rivals. And James successfully pursued a civil fraud case against Trump’s business, resulting in a substantial judgment against him.
Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and longtime Trump ally, has recently faced scrutiny for her management of politically sensitive cases. According to Politico, she appointed prosecutor Mary “Maggie” Cleary as acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia following Siebert’s departure.
Trump concluded his message by pointing to his own legal troubles, noting he had been impeached twice and indicted five times. Of those criminal cases, only the Manhattan hush money trial has gone to a jury, resulting in 34 felony convictions. Two federal cases brought by special counsel Jack Smith were dismissed after Trump’s 2024 election victory, while a sprawling racketeering case in Georgia remains unresolved amid controversy over the lead prosecutor’s role.
The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
