President Donald Trump is preparing to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House as he pushes a 21-point U.S. peace plan for Gaza. The proposal, shaped by Trump’s advisers and international partners, calls for a permanent ceasefire, the return of hostages, an international trusteeship for Gaza, and a halt to Israeli annexation of the West Bank.But Netanyahu, increasingly isolated both at home and abroad, has vowed to press on with Israel’s war against Hamas, setting up a difficult conversation between the two leaders. Tensions have already flared after an Israeli strike in Doha angered regional allies and forced Trump to smooth over relations. With U.S. officials describing Netanyahu as “on his own island,” the meeting could mark a turning point in the relationship between Washington and Jerusalem, as well as in the broader prospects for peace in the region.
